ABOUT THE DESK
Research first, buyer workflow second.
Used-Car Buyer Desk is an independent content site about buying a used vehicle. It is written for first-time buyers and people who have not bought a car in years.

How guides are sourced
We favor public and first-party sources such as the Federal Trade Commission, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, National Insurance Crime Bureau and state motor-vehicle or tax agencies. Valuation and shopping-method references can also use established market sources such as Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book.
What this site is not
This site is general research, not individualized legal advice, a vehicle appraisal, a mechanical inspection or a promise that a transaction will be safe. State title, registration, tax, warranty and dealer rules vary. Confirm the current rule with the responsible state agency or a qualified professional for your facts.
We also do not pretend to own proprietary vehicle-pricing, crash-test or reliability data. Large automotive publishers and government programs have tools and datasets an independent guide site cannot reproduce credibly. Use those sources to choose and value a model; use this desk to reconcile the VIN, title, inspection, price, financing, payment and post-sale paperwork before an irreversible step.
Corrections standard
When a source changes, a court vacates a rule, or a state implementation date moves, we prefer to update the guide rather than preserve a convenient but stale claim. Numeric examples are illustrations unless a source and date are stated.
